Exhibition project "Roll Call of the Centuries: Us and K.S. Petrov-Vodkin"

We invite you to join the international initiative that unites two trends – the artistic "In My Homeland" and the cultural and historical "Roll Call of the Centuries" - in order to travel back to the beginning of the XXth century, the era of formidable challenges, great plans and changes, and then return to our reality and answer the eternal questions that our time has been asking: why and for whom art exists and what it should be like, how different generations look at it.
The idea of the exhibition project "Roll Call of the Centuries: We and K.S. Petrov-Vodkin" is to collect works by young artists for a traveling exhibition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Artist–Teacher K.S. Petrov-Vodkin, to showcase this exhibition and accompany it with events in the vast cultural space. Not only the 150th anniversary of the Artist-Teacher but several serious reasons became the basis for the idea. They are
- The parallels of the rapid and fundamental changes in our lives and the need, both then and now, to search for an artistic image reflecting time;
- In My Homeland project is an international one, and the ARTIST considered the art to be international and speak with all residents of the Earth at the same language. "A piece of art should be that mark of a person on earth, that "sign" that is equally close and, most importantly, clear to each of the sons of the earth".
- According to the Artist–Teacher, "in youth, and only then, all hopes arise, all paths begin, and milestones are outlined for the rest of life. What you didn't stock up on in youth, you won't be able to suck out of a finger in subsequent years; a person moves as if by the inertia of the impulse given in his youth, and the talented one will not jump over the line of what he planned in his youth." Perhaps, for some young people, familiarization with the legacy of K.S. Petrov-Vodkin, his teachers and students will add the necessary "reserve" for creative growth in the future.
- K.S. Petrov-Vodkin brought up talented students whose names are associated with the artistic life of the 1920s and 1930s. His pedagogical methods were aimed at forming a generation of artists capable of independent artistic thinking.
- n My Homeland project is defined as art and ecologic, and the ARTIST believed that man is naturally endowed with all the necessary qualities to feel like an organic part of the nature of his native planet, he exclaims with pain about people's loss of connection with the earth, alienation from it: "There are amazing misunderstandings of discord with nature that people do not notice."
- At a meeting with students of the Painting Faculty of the Academy of Arts on December 9, 1936, he said: "I declare publicly – think of the Earth as a planet, and you will never make a mistake, guys!"
The basis of the exhibition fund will be the works submitted to the contest-exhibition "In My Homeland" on the following themes:
- "Dedicated to Petrov-Vodkin"
- "Me and…"
- "Art in the process"
- "Disappearing Nature: Keepsake pictures"
During the jury work in February 2027, the selection of works for the exhibition project will take place from among the works of Diploma Winners of 1-3 Degrees.
Exhibitions are formed from the selected works. They will be provided for exhibition to the project participants by prior agreement.
The project "Roll Call of the Centuries: We and K.S. Petrov-Vodkin" – is about the Artist and us, about the search for an artistic method that allows you to reflect modernity, about a thoughtful and attentive approach to the environment, about a creative approach to the artistic heritage of the past.
Art schools and studios, museums, exhibition halls and libraries are involved in the implementation of the idea.
The dates of the exhibitions are April 2027 – December 2029.
